Pressure Lubrication Pump
Maximum Protection for Critical Components
Pressure lubrication reduces friction and internal wear by delivering a continuous flow of oil to
each bearing point via a gear oil pump, keeping bearings cool and extending pump life. Each
crankshaft and connecting rod is gun-drilled for precise oil flow, while a spin-on
automotive-style oil filter ensures clean oil for maximum longevity. An analog pressure gauge
allows operators to monitor oil pressure accurately, providing reliable performance and peace of
mind.
100% Cast Iron Pump Features
Many compressors rely on aluminum components, which do not offer the same durability and
rigidity as cast iron. All major components of our compressors are constructed from cast iron,
including:
● Crankcase
● Cylinder heads
● Cylinders
● Connecting rods
● Crankshaft
● High-pressure piston
High Performance
Pressure Lubricated pumps feature a high-performance pressure lubrication system, delivering superior
protection and longevity under demanding conditions. A gear-driven oil pump, mounted to the rear of
the crankshaft, generates positive oil pressure, ensuring consistent lubrication throughout the
system.
Rifle Drilled
All crankshaft and connecting rods are rifle-drilled, allowing direct oil flow to key wear points—
including bearings and other high-friction components. A SPIN ON automotive-style oil filter
provides clean, efficient filtration for optimal performance and simplified maintenance during oil
changes.
Critical Components Coverage
Unlike splash-lubricated systems, pressure lubrication delivers oil precisely where it's needed, reducing friction, wear, and heat—especially in high-stress, continuous-duty environments. This is the most effective method for keeping your compressor running stronger, longer.
Optional Head Unloaders
Head unloaders are ideal for constant-run applications. They relieve the intake valve during
operation, improving pump cooling and reducing overall wear under heavy workloads. This
feature enhances reliability and extends the service life of the compressor in demanding
environments. On our gas-powered compressors, continuous-run head unloaders provide
decompression during engine startup, reducing load on the electric starter and ensuring smoother,
more efficient starts.
Piston Rings
Our pumps utilize a four-ring piston design, featuring precision-engineered overlap rings that
minimize compression loss and significantly reduce oil carryover. This configuration enhances
sealing efficiency, improves overall pump performance, and supports long-term reliability under
demanding operating conditions.
Gaskets
Our pumps feature high-quality, non–oil-absorbent gaskets designed to minimize oil leakage.
This ensures a more reliable seal, reduces maintenance requirements, and contributes to the
long-term efficiency and durability of the pump.
Flywheels 5–25 HP
Our Eaton pumps feature heavy-duty cast iron flywheels designed to maximize energy efficiency and performance. The increased mass generates greater kinetic energy, reducing amp draw and lowering overall energy consumption. Each flywheel is equipped with multiple B-groove belts, providing a larger contact surface area to extend compressor belt life. Additionally, flywheels are engineered with optimized cooling fins to enhance compressor pump cooling capacity.
- 5 HP – 16” flywheel, (2) B-style groove belts, 6 large cooling fins
- 7.5 / 10 HP – 20” flywheel, (2) B-style groove belts, 9 large cooling fins
- 15 / 20 HP – 24” flywheel, (3) B-style groove belts, 6 large cooling fins
- 25 HP – 20” flywheel, (4) B-style groove belts, 9 large cooling fins
Piston and Connecting Rod
-
Cast Iron High-Pressure Pistons
Must be cast iron for long life. Designed to withstand heavy loads, they prevent cylinder scoring and pump failure, unlike aluminum high-pressure pistons used by some competitors.
-
CNC-Machined Solid Cast Iron Connecting Rods
Provide maximum rigidity and strength for long-term reliability. Competitor rods often use aluminum, which is prone to failure.
-
Replaceable Bearing Inserts & Wrist Pins
Allow full rebuildability of the connecting rod assembly, extending pump life. The connecting rods are fully rebuildable and not throw-away, unlike many competitor designs.
-
Low-Pressure Pistons (Two-Stage Pumps)
Made from aluminum for balance and efficiency, as they operate under low stress (~45 PSI).
-
Advanced Piston Rings
We use four rings instead of three, designed to overlap each other: two oil control rings remove excess oil on the downstroke, and two compression rings seal under compression to prevent blow-by. This design maximizes sealing, reduces oil carryover, and extends ring life.
-
Superior Connecting Rod Design
Maintains strength at the rod’s base, preventing catastrophic failure common in aluminum rods. At the crankshaft end—the point where aluminum rods commonly fail—cast iron provides the most reliable long-term performance.
-
Rifle-Drilled Connecting Rod Oil Port
Allows oil to travel through the crankshaft to the rifle-drilled passage in the connecting rod and up to the piston pin and bearing, ensuring continuous lubrication and extended component life.
Disc Valves
-
CNC-Machined Concentric Ring (Disc) Valves
Precision surface-ground for superior sealing, durability, and extended service life. Also known as concentric ring valves, this design is significantly more reliable than feather or fixed reed valves commonly used by competitors. Although more costly to manufacture, disc valves deliver greater longevity and consistent, trouble-free performance. Service is simple and efficient—remove the retainer, lift out the valve for inspection, and reinstall it within minutes. In contrast, reed valve systems require substantially more service time and are more prone to issues.
-
Head Unloader Option
All valves are engineered to support an automatic head unloader system. Head unloaders are only included on fully packaged electric units, while on gas-driven units, the unloader is included on all models. Recommended for electric units operating at 40% or greater duty cycle, head unloaders save energy, improve efficiency, reduce wear, and extend equipment life while protecting the electric motor and magnetic starter by minimizing repeated starting under load. The pilot valve works with a ball valve connected to it; under high duty cycle applications (over 40%), the ball valve can be opened to allow continuous-run operation. On electric units, the unloader works with the pilot valve to unload the compressor at preset pressure, holding the intake valve open to prevent compression while the piston continues cycling. This allows cool air to circulate through the cylinder, dissipating heat and reducing internal temperatures. On gas-powered continuous-run units, the head unloader reduces starting drag, improves ease of starting, lowers fuel consumption, and minimizes engine strain.
Oil Pump
-
Oil Pump Bleeder Valve
Allows for quick and efficient priming of the oil pump.
-
Liquid-Filled Oil Pressure Gauge
Provides clear, accurate oil pressure readings for easy monitoring during operation.
-
Automotive-Style Gear Oil Pump
Designed for reliability, this pump pressurizes the internal crankshaft bearings and the upper connecting rod assembly, delivering oil to critical wear points to improve bearing cooling and extend overall engine and pump life.
-
Adjustable Oil Pump Regulator
Enables precise oil pressure adjustment across varying RPM ranges.
-
Automotive-Style Spin-On Oil Filter
Effectively removes debris and contaminants from the oil, helping extend pump service life.
Cylinder Heads
-
Solid Cast Iron Cylinder Heads
We do not use aluminum cylinder heads due to their tendency to experience head gasket failures, and because most are equipped with reed-style valves that typically result in shorter service life. Our cast iron heads are engineered for maximum durability and extended performance. Tapped holes provide superior strength compared to aluminum heads, while cast iron maintains rigidity under demanding conditions. The disc valve design ensures a secure head gasket seal without the need for retorquing.
-
Precision-Machined Disc Valve Design
Allows for quick valve inspection and simplified maintenance. Recognized as one of the most reliable valve systems in the industry.
-
High-Quality Disc Valves
Designed for easy serviceability, long valve life, and dependable, trouble-free operation.
-
Head Unloaders
Compressors equipped with the head unloader option improve efficiency and extend electric motor life. When maximum tank pressure is reached, the preset pilot valve unloads the compressor, allowing the motor to continue running rather than repeatedly starting and stopping. This reduces amp draw by up to 60% while unloaded and minimizes electrical and mechanical wear. Head unloaders are also used on our gas-powered units to minimize load on the electric start system, increasing starter life and reducing fuel consumption.
Cylinder Construction
-
Cast Iron Cylinders
CNC-machined to maintain overall flatness and precise tolerances. The precision cylinder bore ensures concentricity, reducing oil carryover and supporting long-lasting piston performance.
-
Deep Fin Cooling Fins
Designed to maximize surface area for efficient cylinder cooling, extending pump life under high-duty cycle operation.
-
100% Cast Iron Construction
No aluminum sleeves. Unlike aluminum, cast iron handles high-duty cycle compression efficiently. Many competitors claim cast iron but use aluminum beneath the paint—Eaton pumps are truly all cast iron.
-
Deep-Bored and Threaded Holes
Provide solid head retention and allow proper torque application, ensuring long-term durability of cylinder and head gaskets.
-
Precision-Honed Cylinder Surfaces
Every pump maintains measured cylinder honing, promoting easier break-in, reduced oil carryover, and longer piston ring life.
Riser
Our pump mounting plate riser is designed to raise the pump allowing 360-degree air flow from the flywheel to cool the pump oil reservoir. Pump mount risers also allow air to flow under the pump for maximum cooling.
